Cassava AI Data Center (South Africa)

Cassava Technologies is converting one of its Africa Data Centres sites in South Africa into the continent’s first NVIDIA-backed “AI factory.” Phase one installs 3,000 high-density GPUs by mid-2025 within the operator’s Johannesburg footprint, delivering sovereign compute for model training and inference workloads that previously relied on overseas cloud platforms. The project forms part of Cassava’s $720 million partnership with NVIDIA to seed AI-ready capacity across Africa, using the country’s relatively robust grid and renewable energy mix to host liquid-cooled supercomputing clusters for local enterprises and researchers.
