Alibaba Cloud — Zhangbei Super Data Center

Alibaba Cloud’s Zhangbei Super Data Center sits on the windswept Bashang Plateau in Hebei Province, 260 kilometers northwest of Beijing. The campus is specifically designed for AI training workloads powering the Tongyi Qianwen (通义千问) large language model family. The plateau location provides natural cooling and proximity to Inner Mongolia’s massive wind and solar farms. Zhangbei is one of China’s greenest large-scale AI compute facilities, with renewable energy accounting for over 70% of power consumption. The facility houses over 100,000 servers including both Alibaba’s in-house Hanguang 800 AI inference chip clusters and NVIDIA GPU training clusters.
