Microsoft’s Azure France Central region, launched in 2018, is one of Microsoft’s key European sovereign cloud deployments and houses the primary zone for French government and defense workloads under the “Cloud de Confiance” initiative. The region pairs with Azure France South (Marseille) for high-availability deployments. France Central is central to Microsoft’s European AI Copilot rollout — Azure OpenAI Service in France hosts GPT-4o and other models for French enterprise customers subject to GDPR and data localization requirements. Microsoft has partnered with Orange Business Services and Capgemini to offer certified sovereign cloud services out of this region. The facility has committed to 100% renewable energy by 2025 through French wind and solar PPAs. France Central hosts significant financial services AI workloads from BNP Paribas, Société Générale, and AXA.
