Google Cloud operates two primary Indian cloud regions — Mumbai (asia-south1, launched 2017) and Delhi NCR (asia-south2, launched 2021) — serving as the backbone of Google’s AI infrastructure for the Indian market. Together, these regions represent approximately 200 MW of compute capacity and provide full Vertex AI, Document AI, Translation API, and Gemini API access under Indian data residency requirements.

India is one of Google’s fastest-growing cloud markets. The Mumbai and Delhi regions serve major Indian enterprises including Reliance Jio, Airtel, HDFC Bank, Flipkart, Zomato, and Swiggy. The Indian government has engaged Google Cloud for multiple digital infrastructure projects, including AI-powered flood forecasting systems, crop yield prediction for farmers, and translation for India’s 22 official languages.

Google has committed $10 billion in India investment through 2027, spanning data center capacity, AI research, startup ecosystem support, and digital skilling. Google’s AI for Social Good India initiative focuses on healthcare AI (TB detection, cancer screening), agricultural AI (pest and disease prediction), and education AI for rural India. The Indian operations purchase renewable energy through Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) PPA agreements and non-fossil fuel energy certificates. India’s DigiLocker, RuPay, and UPI digital infrastructure rely heavily on Google Cloud’s Indian regions.
