Microsoft — Vietnam AI Cloud Region
Hanoi, Hanoi / Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
Microsoft announced a $1 billion investment in Vietnam’s AI infrastructure in February 2024, including plans for the country’s first Azure cloud region. The investment was announced during President Biden’s state visit to Hanoi, underscoring the geopolitical dimension of AI infrastructure investment in Southeast Asia — Vietnam is a key US strategic partner and a major beneficiary of supply chain diversification from China. The Azure Vietnam region will support the country’s rapidly growing digital economy, manufacturing sector digitization, and government e-services. Vietnam has positioned itself as an AI hub in Southeast Asia and has a significant pool of software engineers. Microsoft’s investment includes workforce AI training programs targeting 1 million Vietnamese workers.
