Kakao — KakaoCloud AI Data Center

Kakao’s cloud data center campus supports KakaoCloud — Korea’s third-largest cloud provider — and hosts the AI models powering Kakao’s vast consumer platform (KakaoTalk, KakaoMap, Kakao T ride-sharing, and others used by 90%+ of South Koreans). The facility houses KoGPT, Kakao’s Korean-language GPT, used across its services for customer support, content generation, and search. The 2022 Kakao data center fire (at a different facility in Pangyo) which knocked Kakao services offline for 127 hours demonstrated the strategic importance of AI infrastructure resilience, prompting Kakao to accelerate redundancy investments.
