AWS — Hong Kong Cloud Region (AI Expansion)

AWS has significantly deepened its AI-focused infrastructure in Hong Kong as part of a multi-billion dollar regional strategy. In May 2025, AWS and Cyberport launched a Joint Innovation Center (JIC) to accelerate AI adoption among local enterprises and startups. The Hong Kong region (ap-east-1) now features specialized AI hardware, including AWS’s custom Trainium and Inferentia chips, as well as high-performance NVIDIA GPU clusters. Notably, AWS launched Hong Kong’s first recycled water data center in early 2026 to sustainably handle the high cooling density required by modern AI workloads. The investment follows “Sovereign-by-Design” principles, ensuring that local financial institutions and public-sector agencies can run advanced generative and agentic AI models while meeting strict data residency and security compliance requirements.
