Microsoft Taiwan North AI Cloud Region
Taipei, Taiwan North, Taiwan
Microsoft is set to launch the “Taiwan North” Azure region for general availability in 2026, representing its largest investment in Taiwan in over 30 years. The region is designed to comprise multiple data center facilities and is specifically optimized to support high-performance computing and real-time AI inference for local and regional enterprises.
The launch follows a multi-year “Reimagine Taiwan” initiative that positions the country as a global hub for Azure Hardware Systems and Infrastructure engineering, focusing on AI, IoT, and edge solutions. The Taiwan North region will provide local data residency for sectors with strict regulatory requirements, such as finance and healthcare, while enabling the localized deployment of the latest OpenAI-based language models. Microsoft is matching the region’s energy consumption with long-term renewable energy power purchase agreements, supporting Taiwan’s energy transition goals.
