Microsoft Project Fairwater (Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin)
Mount Pleasant, Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, United States
Microsoft’s “Project Fairwater” in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, is designed to be the world’s most powerful AI data center campus. Spanning over 1,500 acres on the site originally intended for the Foxconn venture, the campus is projected to reach a peak electrical load of 3.3 gigawatts (GW) by late 2027—exceeding the average power consumption of the city of Los Angeles.
The facility is purpose-built to house hundreds of thousands of NVIDIA Blackwell (GB200 and GB300) GPUs, interconnected by a massive fiber optic network capable of circling the Earth 4.5 times. It features a state-of-the-art closed-loop liquid cooling system that eliminates operational water waste. Total investment in the Mount Pleasant area has surged to over $20 billion following the early 2026 approval of 15 additional data centers across two new campuses. Initial phases are set to go live in early 2026, serving as the flagship for training the largest AI models for OpenAI and Microsoft Copilot.
