In February 2024, Microsoft launched its first cloud data center region in Mexico, officially named “Mexico Central.” Located in the state of Querétaro, the region consists of three Availability Zones, each with separate power, cooling, and security. The infrastructure is specifically optimized for high-density AI workloads, providing local access to Azure’s full AI stack, including Azure OpenAI Service and Copilot infrastructure. This $1.1 billion USD investment is part of the “Innovate for Mexico” initiative and aims to provide low-latency cloud and AI services to the country’s public and private sectors, while ensuring local data residency and compliance.
