Amazon Web Services — AP-SOUTHEAST-1 Singapore Region
Singapore, Central Region, Singapore
Amazon Web Services AP-SOUTHEAST-1 — the Singapore region — is AWS’s primary Asia-Pacific AI hub and one of the company’s oldest and largest international deployments, launched in April 2010. Operating across three availability zones across multiple facilities in Singapore, it serves as the AI and cloud gateway for Southeast Asia, serving customers across Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, and ASEAN markets.
The Singapore region hosts the full AWS AI portfolio: Amazon Bedrock, SageMaker (including Southeast Asia-specific language models), Rekognition, and Amazon Personalize for recommendation engines. It serves major customers including DBS Bank, Grab, Sea Limited (Shopee/SeaMoney), Singapore Airlines, and Singtel. The Singapore government has engaged AWS as a strategic cloud partner under the Smart Nation initiative, with critical workloads on AWS Singapore including the MyInfo government identity platform.
AWS has committed over SGD 12 billion (approximately $9 billion) in Singapore infrastructure investment through 2028. Singapore’s role as APAC’s premier financial center, its exceptional fiber connectivity hub (Equinix, Global Switch), neutral data center ecosystem, and strict but predictable data protection regulation (PDPA) make it irreplaceable as an AI processing hub for the region. Singapore’s grid remains primarily gas-powered, though AWS purchases renewable energy certificates from regional solar projects.
