Amazon Web Services — EU-WEST-1 Dublin Region

Amazon Web Services EU-WEST-1 — the Dublin region — is AWS’s oldest European cloud region, launched in November 2007. It operates across three availability zones in the Greater Dublin area and represents one of AWS’s largest European footprints by compute capacity. The region supports AI services including Amazon Bedrock, SageMaker, and Rekognition for European enterprise customers requiring EU data residency.

AWS has invested over €7.2 billion in Irish infrastructure since 2006 and employs more than 5,000 people in Ireland. The Dublin campus spans multiple facilities in Mulhuddart, Clondalkin, and other suburban Dublin locations. All facilities are matched to 100% renewable energy through AWS’s Power Purchase Agreements with Irish and UK wind farms.

The EU-WEST-1 region hosts critical workloads for European enterprises, government agencies, and multinationals operating under GDPR compliance requirements. AWS has continued to expand Dublin capacity through 2024–2026 to meet growing demand for AI inference workloads and EU-regulated data processing.
