Aleph Alpha — AI Sovereign Cloud (Germany)
Heidelberg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany
Aleph Alpha is Germany’s leading AI startup, focused on sovereign, explainable AI for European enterprise and government use cases. Its training infrastructure, co-located in German data centers operated with HPE hardware, powers the Luminous language model family — the first large language models developed and operated entirely within EU jurisdiction. Aleph Alpha’s business model centers on data sovereignty: governments and regulated industries in Germany, the EU, and allied nations can run Aleph Alpha models on private or on-premise deployments. The German government selected Aleph Alpha as a supplier for the Bundeswehr (military) and various federal agencies. BW-KI, Baden-Württemberg’s AI initiative, is also a partner. While small by hyperscaler standards, Aleph Alpha represents the European sovereign AI model and has attracted investment from Bosch, SAP, and the German federal government.
